THE CAPTAIN'S CHARITY FOR 2025 IS PROSTATE CANCER UK
MESSAGE FROM CLUB CAPTAIN WES BROWNE
The charity I have chosen for next season is Prostate Cancer UK. We will be using their collection tins throughout the season and they will be out on the tables during/after matches so please give generously. And beware, as I did last year, I will be issuing random fines throughout the season. So just behave or else, and no wrong biases!!
We will also have some of their Symbol “Silver/Black Man” badges which will be on sale with all proceeds going to the charity.
In addition, we have set up a Just Giving page jointly with the charity to let you donate as and when you can at any time and I would also encourage you to get your friends and family to give as well. The way to donate is to log on to the just giving website and search for code 79738 and enter the amount you would like to give.
Importantly, another innovation we have set up with the charity is a confidential hot-line.
if any member would like to have a confidential chat with one of their specialist nurses you can do so by ringing 0800 074 8383. So please reach out to them if there is anything you think they can do for you or help you with. It is better to be safe than sorry.
In addition, you can find out if you are at risk in just 30 seconds by simply logging onto
prostatecanceruk.org/riskcheck
and answering three simple questions.
Please try to help this important and worthwhile charity and remember your support will help fund lifesaving research and provide support for men and their families when they need it most.
Let’s see how much we can raise.
Thanks
Captain Wes
PAYMENT OF SUBS FOR NEXT SEASON
Members are reminded that payment of subs for next season is due in January. At the AGM in October the amount was fixed at £150.00.
The club will open on Friday 24th January 2025 for you to come along and make your payment. To make it easy you can pay by bank transfer, credit card, cheque or cash.
So why not make an evening of it and catch up with old friends, have a drink and get your name down for next year.
----------
THE TUESDAY MORNING WORKING PARTY
The clubhouse and its surrounds are maintained by a small group of members who meet regularly, out of season, on Tuesday mornings. They also carry out the improvements needed to keep the facilities up to the modern standards a club of this standing expects.
Over recent years the number of volunteers has started to dwindle meaning there are fewer jobs that they can take on. This will have an impact on finances if the club has to pay for works to be completed.
So the club would really like to see more members coming forward to volunteer to help out. The work is not arduous and is usually finished by lunchtime. There is a great deal of comradery amongst the group and no one is expected to take on any jobs they are not comfortable with. Even if you can just make a cup of coffee you would be most welcome!

NEW LIFE MEMBER - JOHN HORSTED
The club is pleased to announce that at the AGM in October club stalwart John Horsted was made a life member for his huge contribution to the club over the many years of his membership. John said he was "very proud to receive this honour" after being presented with his certificate by Club Chairman Ali Binnie."
Congratulations John, well deserved.
----------
The club runs a thriving WhatsApp group giving members the opportunity to communicate with one another quickly and easily. If you are not already a member of this group but would like to join please contact Ali Binnie or Gareth Hall.

THE TORQUAY WINTER TOUR
After many years of organising and running this tour Tim Hughes has decided to stand down. The club thanks Tim for all his efforts in making this a memorable and successful event over many recent years.
Club chairman Ali Binnie will be organising the tour for 2025 which will take place on a date yet to be decided in November. Watch this space for more information.
