SHAPING OUR IDENTITY

Welcome to GB Britton Bowls Club – "The Bees"

We are a progressive and successful club that firmly believes bowls is a sport that anyone can enjoy.  It’s a DO-ABLE activity—physically, financially, and practically—making it accessible to people of all ages, backgrounds, ethnicities, and genders, including those with disabilities and health conditions.

This inclusive philosophy has been at the heart of our club’s identity, shaping who we are today.  We are committed to growing and evolving, both on and off the green, while staying true to these values.

Our History and Heritage

GB Britton Bowls Club was founded in 1919 by George Bryant Britton, from whom our name originates. Over the years, we’ve earned the affectionate nickname "The Bees."

While many assume the name refers to the abundance of "B’s" in our title, it also reflects the four guiding principles that drive our goals and ambitions. These principles represent the spirit of teamwork, community, and progress that defines our club.

Guiding Principles

  • Build on the playing success of previous seasons by attracting quality players to the club as well as developing our own members abilities and ambitions.
  • Ensure the club is truly accessible to all by creating a positive and safe environment for everyone.  This applies to casual and competitive players as well as visitors and applies to physical safety as well as safety and security of personal information.  Our Safeguarding and Data Protection (GDPR) Polices are shown in this section of the website.
  • Encourage new members to join the club and help their development through in-house coaching and a gradual introduction into the playing arena.  Our new members section on this website sets this out in more detail.
  • Stimulate the growth of a family experience for all members and to continue to develop the social side of the club by increasing our events programme which is also shown in this section of the website.
